Dion Fortune was a mystifying figure during the 20th century and held numerous avatars throughout her lifetime — psychologist, author, occultist, and prominent figure of the Wiccan, mystical, and symbolical movements, She left an indelible mark on several domains, particularly on witchcraft, Wicca, and the occult.

Her lifelong interest in mystics led to the founding of the Fraternity of the Inner Light, an offshoot of the famed Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

Her works continue to be a guiding light for the followers of neopagan religions, deep esoteric studies, and ceremonial magical practices.

Born on 6th December 1890 as Violet Mary Firth in Llandudno, Wales.

She had a comfortable, upper middle-class upbringing and had childhood poetry published in The Girl’s Realm magazine in 1906; The same year, her parents converted to Christian Science, a nontrinitarian and anti-medicine movement.

Fortune claimed to have had visions of the Lost City of Atlantis by the age of four.

In her late teens she decided to rename herself Dion Fortune, a moniker sourced from a family motto, ‘Deo Non Fortuna’ that translates to
