“We must let go of the life we had planned so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” Joseph Campbell.

Star Wars anyone?

Joseph Campbell: It could be said that Joseph Campbell was the Master of 2 Worlds, bridging the gap between myth and the modern world, and leaving a lasting legacy.

Born in 1904, in New York, he grew up in a middle-class Irish catholic family, he eldest of three children.

As a kid, he was fascinated by Native American culture and mythology, spending hours reading about their legends and beliefs.

As he grew older, Joseph’s passion for mythology deepened. He attended Dartmouth College, studying biology and mathematics, but found himself more interested in humanities.

He transferred to Columbia University to pursue his passion, immersing himself in the study of literature, philosophy, and mythology.

Unlike many of the other esoteric thinkers I have covered in this series, he was a star athlete, and was for a time competing with an elite group of world rated half mile runners

He attained a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature in 1925 and a Masters of Arts Degree in Medieval Literature in 1927.
